Marco Polo joins No Sun Fun Run 2012

The Department of  Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) recently organized the "No Sun Fun Run" at the Emaar Boulevard last Thursday, 13 December 2012. This fun race reportedly participated by more than 9000 residents is a prelude to the annual Dubai Midnight Marathon which will be held from next year onwards.

Marco Polo was there ,of course , to take part in this grand event especially as it was organized under the patronage of no less than Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.  Some of our colleagues were quite ecstatic after seeing Shaikh Hamdan and Mr. Diego Maradona at the event.

Rampuri Food Festival at The Bombay

Savour the fine flavors of cinnamon in the meat , taste that hint of sandalwood in the Baingan Ka Bharta............

Marco Polo Welcomes Sushil Kumar

Marco Polo had the privilege of hosting India’s premier sportsman, Mr Sushil Kumar last 5^th December 2012. Mr Kumar was here in Dubai as Guest of Honor at the BITS Sports Festival. 

 

Sushil Kumar is a World Champion wrestler from India who won the gold medal in the 66 kg freestyle competition at the FILA 2010 World Wrestling Championships, a silver medal in the Men's 66kg Freestyle Wrestling event at the 2012 London Olympics and a bronze medal in the Men's 66kg Freestyle Wrestling event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which made him the first Indian to win back to back individual Olympic medals. He received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna - India's highest honour for sportspersons on July 2009 and on 3rd October 2010, Sushil Kumar was the final baton bearer who handed the Queen's Baton to Prince Charles in the Queen's Baton Relay for the 2010 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.

Of course, we cannot let him miss a sumptuous meal at TheBombay, our award winning Indian Restaurant.

In the Gregorian calendar, Diwali falls between mid-October and mid-November.

SPECTRUM NURSERY –MEET THE CHEF

One Thursday morning last September, Marco Polo Hotel was treated to shrieking delights as the little kiddos of Spectrum Nursery ,headed by Madam Jyothi Puani, came to meet Marco Polo Hotel Executive Chef, Chef Sunil Wagh. As part of their school activity, the students have been going around town to meet people from different professions. From policemen, firemen, doctors and nurses, the children learned of the different people in the neighborhood.

Chef Wagh met and gave the kids a tour of the hotel.

Especially the Kitchen where Chef does all his magic.

From cute heart shaped sandwiches and delicious mini cupcakes, 

everyone had fun eating the special treats Chef had prepared.

Superior Supervisory Skills Training

The Human Resources Department recently held a seminar for all supervisors of the hotel. To enhance service and productivity, the seminar also provided the junior management trainees a venue to showcase their learned skills and innate talents.

Training program was headed by Mr Venkatesh of QM Consultancy. He has spearheaded many a training program in the hotel for many years now. The twist this time is that all department heads were called upon to discuss different topics in the course. This gave the supervisors a chance to see their bosses in a different light. As teachers and mentors they (Department Heads) can impart knowledge and experience to the participants that will surely help them in career advancement later on.

Culmination was at the Ballroom attended by our Managing Director, Mr Ashish Nurani , who in his talk, encouraged all supervisors to take it to the next level by applying all methods discussed not just in the workplace but in their personal lives as well. Certificates were handed out by Mr. Sunil Marya, Vice President and General Manager.

Annual Sportsfest Inaugural and January Birthday Celebrants Cake Cutting and Best Employee Awardees

It was quite a festive atmosphere at the poolside of the Marco Polo Hotel last Sunday, 28^th January 2012.  First on the agenda is the monthly cake cutting for all the Birthday celebrants for the month of January. Lucky staff were in good company as this month our Managing Director, Mr. Ashish Nurani and our Vice President, Mr. Sunil Marya are also celebrating their birthdays. 

 Next on the list, the awarding of the best employees for the month of October, November, December. Congratulations guys! Keep up the good work!

 

Then for the main event, Sportsfest 2012 was officially opened by our Managing Director Mr. Ashish Nurani assisted by Executive Chef Milon.

 

 Each year, our HR manager, Mr. Sujith Adiyary organizes a sports tournament for all the employees. Games like football, volleyball, billiards, cricket and even tug-o-war are played. Tournament is for one month and culminates with a grand party that everyone looks forward to.

 So many fun activities are being lined up by the committee. This year’s party will be on the first week of March. To all the staff of Marco Polo Hotel, good luck in all the games. Let us show them all our positive attitude and ability to work as a team.

In this time and age of gadgets and apps, we at the Marco Polo Hotel acknowledge the emergence of a new need from our tech savvy guests. Ever listening and anticipating, we have noticed that most guests now come with at least more than one gadget. From the cell phone, digital cameras, tablets, laptops and even gaming gizmos for the kids, these have become part of the necessities to bring on a business trip or vacation. Plus keeping track of all these can sometimes lead to stressful situations, something we most certainly do not want for our guests.

When we began the planning process for the refurbishment of the hotel guestrooms in 2009, the main focus was to make sure that each room was modern and technology friendly. By that we mean, it must be ready to accommodate the new traveler, the businessman with his laptop, tablet, android phone as well as the family on vacation with their digital cameras, video cams, video games for the kids etc. All rooms now feature a MEDIA HUB, a central port for connecting digital devices to the LCD TV as well as serving as a recharging station, very conveniently located on the writing desk.
